The new 50-baht bank note released today but Phuket residents should wait until tomorrow or Friday to get them. The new 50 baht note was noticed by Bank of Thailand Governor Dr Prasarn Trairatvorakul last week. The new 50 baht note is being release ahead of its bigger currency which planned to bring into full circulation before the end of 2026. The new bank note called series 16 as it is retaining its size and color of the current series.
“The new bank note should replace the 190 million old notes currently in use and more will follow public and economic expansion,” said Dr Prasarn. The new note will be difficult to copy within its watermark. The watermark is the portrait of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The watermark placed alongside the figure 50 and it is clearly appearing underneath the light. Another feature is the security thread. It is a line in the back of the note coloring dark blue to red.
The security key is also appearing on the irregular shapes on both sides to form number 50. Above the relief printing of characters and numbers, there is number 5 in Braille. “It is also honoring Thai Kings of the Sukhothai, Ayutthaya, Thonburi and Rattanakosin periods to visually improve the banknotes and assisting blind people to deal with the notes,” said Dr Prasarn.
