Phuket Local Food Festival was launching its fourth event at Saphan Hin in Phuket Town last night. It have been prepared for recording its tom som (sweet and sour soup) to be the largest in the world. It was officially opened by Phuket Governor Tri Augkaradacha as this event is adjoining Phuket government and Phuket Provincial Administration Organization (OrBorJor) to provide the two-meter soup cauldron.
There were also cooking demonstration and cooking competition to serve best Phuket-styled somtam. It was followed by local student’s performance. Enlightened this cooking event, nearby Phuket Vocational School is displayed colorful exhibition that performing ‘living mannequins’. The students are dressed up in greasepaint and imitated coolies in the Phuket’s tin mining era.
It is succeeded to attract tourists who were lining up to capture a cluster of old-styled rickshaws and the collection of restored OrBorJor Pho Thong (songthaew bus) with flowers and pink accent. One of Phuket expat told, “This is my favorite event due to the food is clean, delicious but also cheap. There are well-prepared 100 stalls and it is impossible to taste all though you are coming every night. I loved it more than Red Cross Fair due to it is providing more laid back, easier parking facility. It is added by fact if there is no alcohol sale but nobody will forbid you if you bring your own.” The great festival starts at 4 PM to 10 PM today (26/1) while it holds daily until Sunday.
