Deputy director of Highway Department, Sathaporn Sornchana told if the plan of Phra Barami Road on Patong hill still awaiting final approval from Highways Department in Bangkok.
“We hoped for the approval then we can work soon in this year,” said him. After it approved, his office would look for a contractor to work this project which scheduled to finish in 150 days. The project site would recover the eastern side of Phra Barami Road which was dramatically broken at last October. It was covered by temporary layer but still it was appearing any fears added by recent seismic activity in this area.
The project will be funding by government from flood damage budget though the real cause along Soi Kuan Yang area is worst erosion. Temporary worker camp and some rubber plantation still occupied downward slope areas. The site had known of its Phuket commuters as it runs along 100 meters in the western of San Chao Phor Suea (Tiger God Chinese Shrine) at the hilltop.
The project would cover 200 meter road and 60 meters downward slope. Workers will bore ‘soilnails’ and setting up PVC drainpipes in the ground to prevent further erosion. The exterior surface would be covered with ‘shotcrete’ (sprayed concrete) with downward slope areas covered with erosion control mesh. The construction project would close this road for five months at least, said Mr Sathaporn.
Phra Barami Road still waiting for additional 5 million baht funding to work permanent repairs that going to the west where a large hole opened up in the middle on August 2009. Kathu side of this road optimists the landslide project would begin this year though it should wait Kathu Municipality approval on April 2. There is no project plan for the landslide prevention that coming from either Kathu Municipality or Highways Department.
